Stream screams: Shows to watch for Friday the 13th, from 'Goosebumps' to 'House of Usher'
While we can't all have a haunted house, at least there are streaming devices to deliver scary stuff to our eyeballs when it's needed the most.
And that time, of course, is right now, with Halloween coming at us as fast as Jason Voorhees riding a scooter. (A Razor, naturally.) Your favorite streamers are rolling out the goodness for spooky season: Netflix unleashes a new literature-infused Mike Flanagan jam, Peacock has partnered with legendary horror director John Carpenter, Apple TV+ is getting in the poltergeist business and Hulu has a wealth of freaky releases under its "Huluween" banner.
Here are 10 shows to stream this month to get in the Halloween spirit:
'Creepshow' Season 4
Based on George Romero and Stephen King's 1982 horror flick, the anthology series returns with a fourth round of weird and wild tales: Among them: A famous photographer is tortured by past sins; vampires move into a new place, leaving a neighbor none too pleased; and a bookshop owner regrets finding Romero's unpublished works.
Where to watch: Shudder, AMC+ (also airs on AMC, Fridays at 10 EDT/PDT).
'The Fall of the House of Usher'
Edgar Allan Poe meets "Succession" in Flanagan's latest horror series. Bruce Greenwood plays the powerful CEO of a pharmaceutical company who's on trial when he's hit by the sudden deaths of his six children and the return of a mystery woman (Carla Gugino) from his past, all told through modern reimaginings of Poe's greatest hits.

'Fright Krewe'
In the animated series, New Orleans teen Soleil (voiced by Sydney Mikayla) accidentally unleashes an ancient evil demon who feeds off fear. But the good news is the spirit of Marie Laveau shows up to give Soleil and her misfit bunch powers, making them the Big Easy's resident supernatural superhero team.

'Goosebumps'
R.L. Stine's beloved book series has been adapted yet again, and this time the results are actually pretty freaky. After a night out where they're not supposed to be, five high schoolers are haunted by a dark presence born from tragedy 30 years earlier that envelops their parents and the new English teacher (Justin Long).

'John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams'
Carpenter's masked maniac Michael Myers ruined quite a few Halloween nights, but the horror director introduces true-life tales of terror in this unscripted anthology series. Each episode tackles an incident that rocked everyday people, including a seance that eerily led to a drowning girl and a hatchet man on the loose in a bunny suit.

'Living for the Dead' (Oct. 18)
Narrated and executive produced by Kristen Stewart(!), the reality series follows a group of queer ghost hunters who travel across the country to some of America's most haunted spots, from a clown motel to Las Vegas' oldest gentlemen's club, to commune with the dead while helping the living.

'Bodies' (Oct. 19)
For horror fiends who appreciate a good police procedural, there's this twist on a familiar concept: The same corpse is found in London's East End in the years 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, and detectives from each period investigate the strange death and team up to uncover a conspiracy that by now spans 150 years.

'Wolf Like Me' Season 2 (Oct. 19)
The relationship between single dad Gary (Josh Gad) and his werewolf girlfriend Mary (Isla Fisher) grows with her pregnancy in this new season. The couple wrestles with whether the baby will be normal or a wolf pup, keeping Mary's secret from the family at large and the return of Mary’s former professor (Edgar Ramirez).

'Creature' (Oct. 20)
This Turkish take on "Frankenstein" is set in Istanbul during the final era of the Ottoman Empire. A rebellious medical student (Taner Ölmez) meets a doctor (Erkan Kolçak Köstendil) with mad scientist tendencies, and their forbidden experiment leads to devastating consequences.

'The Enfield Poltergeist' (Oct. 27)
The infamous 1977 haunting of a family in Enfield, London, was the basis for "The Conjuring 2," and this four-part series revisits the unnerving supernatural event. It features performers reenacting archival audio captured by a paranormal investigator and present-day interviews with those impacted by the case.
