Taylor Swift surprises Kansas City food bank with 'significant contribution'

Taylor Swift has been busy in Kansas City: The Grammy-award-winning star recently made a "significant contribution" to a Kansas City food bank.

Harvesters Community Food Network shared in a social media post in July that Swift, 33, made a generous donation to the food bank.

"It won't be a #cruelsummer for thousands of families, children and seniors experiencing food insecurity thanks to a generous donation we received from the award-winning singer," the food bank wrote on Facebook at the time.

Though Swift made the donation over the summer, the post flew under the radar. The news has now resurfaced as Swift continues to steal the show at Kansas City Chiefs games.

"We were quite surprised," Sarah Biles, director of communications at the food bank, told The Kansas City Star in an interview published this week.

The food bank was asked not to share the total donation amount. However, Biles said in some ways, Swift raising awareness about hunger is nearly as impactful as the donation itself.

"In total, it's a significant contribution to hunger relief and it’s so gratifying to see that she's chosen a cause like this," said Biles.

Swift was spotted Thursday arriving at the Chiefs' game against the Denver Broncos to watch Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his teammates. The singer cheered on the Chiefs in a black dress and red varsity jacket, the day after attending the premiere of her "Eras Tour" movie.

Ahead of her game day arrival, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas welcomed Swift back to the city in a social media post Thursday morning.

Swift started out the game in high spirits. The singer was seen chatting with Kelce's mother, Donna, as well as making a kissy face for the camera for a photo with a young spectator.

Swift and Kelce caused quite a stir with their first public appearance together on Sept. 24, when Kelce played against the Chicago Bears. The "Lavender Haze" singer sat in a suite with Donna Kelce and cheered him on to a 41-10 victory.

The game was the most-watched matchup of the week, drawing 24.3 million viewers and ranking first among women ages 12 to 49.
