A rockslide killed two people Tuesday near the entrance to Yosemite National Park in California, authorities said.

Mariposa County officials confirmed the deaths to CBS News on Friday. CBS News Bay Area reported park officials identified the victims as married San Jose couple Georgios Theocharous, 51, and Ming Yan.

The rockslide occurred at about 9 a.m. local time Tuesday on El Portal Road, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office, KFSN-TV reported Thursday.

Yosemite National Park officials posted on social media that El Portal Road was closed following the slide. The road has since reopened.

El Portal Road (continuation of Highway 140 into Yosemite Valley from El Portal) is closed due to a significant rockfall. Access to Yosemite Valley is still possible via Hwy 41/Wawona Road and Hwy 120/Big Oak Flat Road. Tire chains may be required. 209/372-0200 for road info. pic.twitter.com/BH2dUndZDS
