'You don't need to pay': Diner surprised by Canton Paradise staff's kind gesture after he said food wasn't nice

Paying for subpar food can be a bummer, but one man was pleasantly surprised when a cashier at Canton Paradise waived the charge for a dish he found unsatisfactory.

Pleased by the service he received, diner Leo Caballes took to TikTok to recount his experience dining at the Compass One outlet of the restaurant chain in a video posted on Monday (Oct 23).

"I ordered two dishes, kai lan and chee cheong fun... I really didn't like the chee cheong fun. For whatever reason it just didn't taste like anything. It was super bland," recounted the man.

When he was about to pay for the meal, a waitress asked Cabelles if he wanted to take away the chee cheong fun he'd left behind.

After explaining that he didn't want the dish as it "didn't taste nice", the cashier immediately offered to waive the charge of the dish.

"You don't need to pay," she told Cabelles.

"I really admire the customer service of Canton Paradise, because they really take pride in what they cook. And if it's not of the quality that they expect, and the customer says that, they don't mind cancelling the order," the man said in the video.

Cabelles' video was met with positive comments from netizens, who praised the quality of Canton Paradise's service.

A quick check by AsiaOne shows that the same outlet has received four stars on Google reviews. One customer, who goes by VB Praline Noisette also praised the service of two staff members earlier this month.

"The combination of delicious food, a clean and welcoming environment, and the exemplary service provided by Ms. Tham Mei Ling and Mr. Kai Wen has left a lasting positive impression on me. It’s not every day that one encounters such a remarkable dining experience," wrote the diner.

However, one did suggest that Cabelles should have informed the restaurant's staff earlier so that they could replace the dish.

AsiaOne has contacted Cabelles and Paradise Group for more information.
